The sister company to the Lucky Bucket Brewing Company in La Vista is the Cut Spike Distillery. This is the first spirits distillery in Nebraska to operate since prohibition. Originally, the owners of Lucky Bucket intended to operate a distillery, until they were curtailed in their efforts due to existing Nebraska Law. The Lucky Bucket Brewing company was established as an alternative to the distillery. Some time later, after petitioning the state legislature to change the law to allow a legal distillery, the Cut Spike Distillery was established.
Producing fine hand-made whiskey, vodka, brandy, and rum using pristine water from the Sandhills of Nebraska. Cut Spike Distillery pays homage to traditional small batch-distilled spirits that are handcrafted from start to finish.
The distillery released Nebraska’s first single-malt whiskey last fall. The whiskey is produced entirely on-site, from brewing the wash and distilling the spirit to barrel aging and hand-filling each bottle. Cut Spike Distillery won a double gold medal for its single malt whiskey at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in April 2014.
